Liquor Donuts is a new music-themed food and art space coming to Toronto’s Kensington Market. We are excited to announce we have signed a 10-year lease for the space at 241 Augusta Ave (formerly Zimmerman’s Freshmart) that has sat vacant for almost 2 years. Our space, once complete in early 2019, will feature a fast casual eatery serving up our Chef-driven, donut-themed menu (sweet and savoury!), craft beer and killer tracks. Behind the eatery will be a gallery space that can be booked for art shows, listening parties, Bat Mitzvas and other community, cultural and art events. An in-house record press will deliver hot fresh vinyl (Lacquer Donuts!) for independent artists.
All of this is happening on the main floor at 241 Augusta. We are in the planning stages for the basement, that could include recording studios, production and more. A lot of people (including us) think of Kensington Market as a special place with a heart and soul not be messed with. We agree. We are current and former residents of the market, and a group of independent artists that have come together to make the vision of Liquor Donuts a reality. We have absolutely no plans to open a nightclub or any sort of establishment that is focused primarily on drinking, and not in keeping with the community hub we are trying to build.
Liquor Donuts is about creative ventures, original music and good food. We want you to come by in the morning for a Donut and a coffee. Or come with your friends in the evening to enjoy a craft beer, donut burger and listen to some new wax. You will be able to walk to the back and check out some art and the vinyl press, then go home with a record.
Beginning this summer our space will launch with an initial residency of Fairland Funhouse Learn more about this awesome art project at the link. We are essentially sub-leasing our space to our Funhouse friends, but inside the Funhouse we will indeed be selling some Donuts! After their run (a few months, end date some time this fall/winter TBD) we will complete the build-out of the eatery and relaunch the space, likely in early 2019.
In the meantime, we have been starting to sharpen our Donut chops. Some of you had our Donuts at the recent Howard Jones concert, and yes we are going to be supplying The Phoenix more donuts. Others may have sampled our wares at VISTA Restaurant @ Ontario Place, where we now supply donuts. Others still sampled our wares at the recent Art Car fundraiser on Sterling Ave. To support all this donut making and delivering we have just acquired this beauty - our newest family member - a 1975 GMC truck.
